Privacy

Vernier is a metronome that runs in your browser. This page sets out what the app stores, what the server that hosts it records, and who to contact.

What the app collects

The app collects nothing. It sets no cookies, writes nothing to local storage, and makes no network requests once the page has loaded. The page's Content-Security-Policy (default-src 'none' with connect-src 'self') blocks requests to any other origin.

What the host records

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web server, Cloudflare records connection details for each request: your IP address, the time, the page requested and your browser's user-agent string. This happens on every website you visit and is not specific to Vernier.

Cloudflare also asks browsers to report network failures, not successful visits, to its own error-logging endpoint. Cloudflare adds this at its edge and it cannot be switched off on this address.

The legal basis for both is legitimate interests under GDPR Art. 6(1)(f): operating and securing the site. The information is not used for profiling, advertising or analytics, and it is not combined with anything else. Cloudflare acts as the processor, and its own policies govern retention.

What is stored on your device

Vernier registers a service worker (a small script your browser keeps for this site) and caches a copy of the app's own files. This happens automatically, and is what lets the metronome keep working without a network connection. The copy is read only to serve the app back to you on the same device.

If you add Vernier to your home screen, your device also keeps its name and icon, and on Android a small application package built from them. Vernier may offer a button or instructions for this. Nothing is added until you accept, and the app is unchanged if you never do.

Your browser separately remembers, for its own security, that this address should only be loaded over HTTPS. It also holds Cloudflare's error-reporting instruction for seven days.

No consent is asked for, and none is required. Storing this is strictly necessary to deliver the page you loaded and, where you added the app yourself, to provide the app you added. Both are covered by the exemption in Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive. None of it identifies you, is used for any other purpose, or is sent anywhere.

You can remove the service worker and its cache at any time by clearing site data for this address in your browser's settings, and remove an installed copy by deleting it from your home screen or app list. On iOS these are two separate stores, so clearing everything can mean doing both. The HTTPS and error-reporting instructions expire on their own.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, and the right to complain to your national data protection authority. This site holds nothing about you to disclose or erase; any such request would concern Cloudflare's server logs.
